Bokashi Fermenting System
What is the Bokashi Fermenting System? The Bokashi Fermenting System is a new and revolutionary way of fermenting or pickling your food residuals. The method was developed in Japan and when done properly breaks down the organic waste mateial with many micr-organisms (lactobacilli, yeasts and phototropic microbes) all working together. It's easy to do once you have the right equipment. We can provide you with the right equipment. The general method of bokashi has been known and practiced for hundred of years. It was made substantially more reliable in practice by Dr. Teruo Higa. Dr.Higa recognized the correct composition of microbes that was needed to get it right. This processed is utilized all over the world and is slowly working its way into the United States and Canada. The best part of the Bokashi Fermenting System is that you ferment practically anything- even left-over meat and fish scraps as well as cheese and dairy. The Bokashi Fermenting System process is anaerobic. This means that air is effectively excluded during the process. Most people are familiar with the aerobic composting method. In the Bokashi Fermenting System, micro-organisms break down the constituents of the food residuals until they are effectively pickled. The Bokashi Fermenting System is a totally natural way to reduce, reuse and recycle organic waste. This method is 100% natural. It is safe for you, safe for your pets, and safe for the environment. The fermenting helps reduce greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane and bad smells like hydrogen sulfide and ammonia invariably associated with aerobic scrap composting. It is also much faster at breaking down your food scraps. Fermenting your scraps is a lot like making wine. Oxygen is the enemy causing the rotting smell during aerobic composting. It is also the reason why many are hesitant to compost their food residuals. In this system, the lack of oxygen and the relatively low acidity prevent the organisms that produce gas and smells from forming, and any that were present will not be able to survive. They will be consumed by the anaerobic organisms that thrive when oxygen is absent. That means no putrid smells emanating from your food scraps container. Our bokashi blend mixed with food or yard trimmings allows recycling which reduces the amount of waste in landfills. According to the EPA about 27% of all waste transported to landfills includes food residuals and yard trimmings. With the Bokashi Fermenting System the processed waste ends up in your garden where plants will get good use out of the nutrients that are produced while scraps are destroyed. With the Bokashi Fermenting System a healthy balance of microbes go into the soil or into your composter or pile with the fermented scraps re-establishing the needed healthy high microbial counts present in healthy soil. Treating your soil and compost this way provides for improved uptake of nutrients and antioxidants resulting in vigorous and healthy plant growth. The nutrient product produced in fermenting acts as a fertilizer for the plants. Bokashi is used worldwide and reduces our dependency on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Bokashi culture mix has a sweet fermented smell. It is quicker in breaking down food and yard trimmings and speeds up your composting process. * It can also be utilized for Pet Waste Disposal. Only use the finished product of pet waste for ornamental plants. Do not use in vegetable gardens.
